Sheffield United have received a fitness boost regarding Michael Tonge.Sheffield United have been boosted by the news that influential midfielder Michael Tonge's ankle injury is not as bad as first thought.
The 21-year-old was forced to come off midway through the first half of the club's Carling Cup defeat to Watford on Tuesday evening and needed an X-ray on the injured joint.
Blades boss Neil Warnock was concerned tests would reveal a fracture to Tonge's ankle, but the X-ray has shown the player only has muscle damage around the joint.
It is unknown how long Tonge will be out for, but he is certain to miss Friday's Championship clash at Crewe Alexandra.
Meanwhile, the club have handed a trial to former Stockport County and Norwich City defender Keith Briggs.
The 22-year-old has been looking for a new club after being released from the Carrow Road side just over a month ago.
Briggs appeared for The Blades in Wednesday's reserve match against Hull City, as he looks to impress the Bramall Lane outfit.
