Derby have completed the signing of Sheffield United midfielder Paul Thirlwell. On the eve of the Championship season, Derby have completed their fourth signing of the summer in the shape of Sheffield United midfielder Paul Thirlwell.
The 26-year-old spent one year with The Blades after emerging from Sunderland's youth ranks, and started 28 league games for Neil Warnock's side last season.
Despite being a prominent presence in the squad, Warnock was content to let Thirlwell leave, and The Rams have beaten off further interest from Coventry to land their man.
The former England Under-21 international signs for an undisclosed fee and joins fellow new Rams Kevin Poole, Marc Edworthy and Andrew Davies as Phil Brown prepares his side to face Brighton on Saturday.Meanwhile, one player who Warnock wants to stay is Nick Montgomery.
The 24-year-old is currently transfer-listed at Bramall Lane, but he has shone in pre-seaosn and looks set to start against Leicester at the weekend.
Nick Montgomery remains on United's transfer list but Neil Warnock is adamant that his tigerish midfielder is not leaving Bramall Lane.
"Monty is always in my squad of 16," said Warnock. "I have no intention of letting him go anywhere but obviously he wants to play first team football.
"I don't know if any other Championship club will guarantee him a first team place and sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side."
