Iron agree Sharp fee

Scunthorpe United have agreed a fee for Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp.

Scunthorpe United have now agreed a fee for Sheffield United's young striker Billy Sharp.

Sharp spent last season on loan at Rushden & Diamonds and the 19-year-old impressed, scoring nine goals in just 16 appearances for the League Two side.

Brian Laws, the Scunthorpe manager, has been tracking the player for some time and had a loan bid rejected by the Championship club last week but negotiations have been ongoing.

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock told the club's official website: "I'm not keen on loaning him out and we've now agreed a good price.

"I've not spoken to Billy since Wednesday, we'll sit down and have a chat about his discussions at Scunthorpe."

That news will come as a boost to Laws who, after being rebuffed in a loan bid for Sharp, has been working towards bringing the player to Glanford Park on a permanent basis.

Law added in the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "If we can get Billy we'll be delighted because the one thing he is is a natural finisher."
