Michael Tonge has hailed Sheffield United's performance in the victory over West Ham.
Michael Tonge has hailed his Sheffield United team-mates for the performance they produced against West Ham.
The Blades climbed out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 victory over their fellow strugglers, Tonge grabbing the opener after 39 minutes with a brilliant free-kick.
Tonge was delighted with the result, which went against the recent form book, but believes his side will have to turn in five more equally strong displays in order to avoid the drop.
"We have been on a bit of a bad run recently and there was a lot of pressure on this game," said the midfielder in The Sun.
"The lads showed a lot of courage and bottle to come out and play as well as we did.
"We were playing a team in form. They have won three on the bounce and just come away from beating Arsenal away, which is quite a feat.
"They must have been full of confidence and to win how we did is pleasing.
"For us to come out and get three points and play as well as we played - the lads have got to take a lot of confidence from that.
"We need to show a similar set of performances from now until the end of the season to see us home."
On his own free-kick, Tonge admitted the execution was just about perfect.
He said: "I couldn't really have hit the free-kick any better. I think it was just what we needed at the time because we started the game quite well and then just needed a goal.
"The way the wall was set up, I thought if I got it round the outside man the keeper might struggle to get it because he was not going to be able to see it in the end.
"It proved the case in the end."
