Wales striker David Cotterill is eager to open his account in the World Cup qualifier against Finland at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
The young Sheffield United striker is back in favour under John Toshack and although he has amassed 12 caps he has only one start and no goals to his name.
Wales tackle the Finns in Cardiff on Saturday before playing host to Group Four leaders and favourites Germany on Wednesday.
With Craig Bellamy fit again after a knee problem, Cotterill is hoping to be given the nod ahead of the likes of Rob Earnshaw to partner the Manchester City striker this weekend.
Decision
He said: "There is a bit of competition for the second striker's role against Finland because a lot of the lads are playing week in and week out now, including me.
"I am not the only one in the squad who thinks he should play, but whatever the manager decides I am sure his decision will be right for the team.
"I have waited a long time for a first international goal and it would be nice to get off the mark now, if I am selected or if I come into the game off the bench. I want to play my part in making sure we get the result we want."
Cotterill is in good form for the Blades, with three goals in his last five games as Kevin Blackwell's side chase promotion to the Premier League.
Confidence
And the former Bristol City youngster is eager to continue his recent run and help secure top-flight football for the Bramall Lane club.
He added: "My confidence is the highest it has been for a long time because it is the first time I have had a run of games at Sheffield United. Hopefully I can keep building on that.
"I started the season slowly but I have managed to get myself back in the team now and hopefully I will stay in there. We are going well at the moment and believe we can get promotion."
