Midfielder committed to Blades

Sheffield United midfielder Stephen Quinn insists he is 100 per cent committed to helping the Blades achieve promotion after signing a new three-year deal earlier this month. The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was linked with a summer move away from Bramall Lane after contract talks stalled, with both Swansea and Leicester linked with the playmaker. However, the 24-year-old told skysports.com that he is happy with the business done by the South Yorkshire club over the summer and is looking forward to playing his part in new manager Gary Speed's plans. "I'm not 100 per cent sure, but I believe there were a few clubs enquiring about my situation while contract talks were going on," he said.

Solid squad

"Last season we just missed out on the play-offs and I wasn't really sure where the club was heading after 10 players were released and a number of loan players returned to their clubs. "We had a lot of players on loan last season that were only here to get some games under their belts, so it was important to build a solid squad of players that were contracted to the club. "They have done that with the likes of Morgan, Monty and Cresswell signing new deals, plus the addition of Ertl, Britton, Simonsen and Bogdanovic to name just a few, so we've got a solid spine to the side now and a nice blend of youth and experience. "I really believe that we have got all the ingredients now for a good push for promotion and that was a big reason why I wanted to stay here."
