Sheffield United striker Darius Henderson claims he never lost faith in his ability after almost a year out through injury.
The 29-year-old has struggled in a side battling the drop at the foot of the Championship since returning to action in March, despite being made captain by manager Micky Adams.
Henderson has taken some criticism from a section of the club's supporters, but he repaid the faith shown in him by Adams by scoring twice in a remarkable 3-2 win at Reading, after initially being two goals down.
It was Henderson's first goals of the entire season for the Blades, but he admitted he just needed patience in himself to get back amongst the goals.
"In terms of my personal performances I've had to be patient, having been out for 11 months," he said.
"On top of that I only trained twice before my comeback at Watford which obviously didn't go to plan and I've missed chances since returning from suspension.
"I always knew if the chances kept coming I could get myself in the right positions and luckily we managed to get the three points, which was the main goal in keeping alive our hopes of staying up."
