Nigel Clough shares his thoughts on Sheffield United's pre-season and new signing Michael Higdon reflects on his time in Holland.

Nigel Clough is hoping to make two more signings before Sheffield United kick off the new campaign against Bristol City on Saturday.

The Blades, who kick off the 2014/15 season at Bramall Lane, have recruited nine new players during the summer but Clough is still in the hunt for a centre-half and a full-back.

Central defender Harry Maguire recently completed his £2.5million move to Hull and a deal to sign Derby's Kieron Freeman on a permanent basis following his loan spell with the Blades last season failed to materialise.

"I think we're still short," Clough said. "We lost Harry Maguire and we haven't replaced him yet, so that's the major one but I think we're ok in most other areas.

"Maybe (we need) a bit of full-back cover since the Kieron Freeman deal collapsed, Ben Davies will deputise when we need him, so a full-back and a centre-half is what we're looking for now."

Clough added: "We're trying, either on loan or permanent, we've put calls in for players so it's just a case of can we do something before Saturday.

"It's unlikely but we'll keep trying and if you do get someone in on Friday, do you throw them in on Saturday with just a day's training with us?"
