Gillingham and Walsall are both in line for a possible double after the August nominations were revealed for the manager and player of the month awards in Sky Bet League 1.

Walsall boss Dean Smith is a leading contender for the managerial gong after guiding the Saddlers to the top of the table for the first time in a decade by garnering 13 points from a possible 15.

Midfielder Sam Mantom was hampered by a knee injury last term but he has blossomed so far this season, scoring in each of Walsall's three away wins to earn a nomination.

Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh has been nominated after steering his side to an unbeaten start to the campaign with a haul of 11 points from five games, while midfielder Bradley Dack is a contender for the players' honour after scoring four goals during that run.

The other nominees for the managers' award are Sheffield United's Nigel Adkins, whose side have notched four straight wins after losing their opening match 4-0 to Gillingham, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink of Burton Albion, who has seen his side adapt well to League 1 following promotion with four victories from five games.

Coventry striker Adam Armstrong, 18, is in contention for the players' award after making a major impact following his loan switch from Newcastle with five goals in as many matches.
