Kevin Lisbie's early goal after just six minutes was enough to condemn Gary Megson's side to another defeat.
The jet-heeled striker flicked on Claus Jensen's corner towards goal and although Russell Hoult got hands on the effort he could not keep the ball out.
West Brom fought back and Jason Koumas was unlucky not to bring them on level terms midway through the first half with his free kick coming off the crossbar.
Baggies striker Jason Roberts was lucky to stay on the field in the 34th minute after a clash with Addicks defender Richard Rufus.
The visitors continued to push forward in search of an equaliser in the second half and had loud penalty appeals waved away on 67 minutes when Roberts went down in the box under a challenge from old rival Rufus.
Despite some late chances Charlton managed to hold on for all three points.
