The left back had hinted earlier this month that he may have to quit Charlton after growing increasingly frustrated with his role at The Valley.
The England international had wanted to establish himself as a regular at left back for Charlton to enhance his international chances, but Chris Powell's decision to extend his stay seems to have made up Konchesky's mind to leave.
Konchesky's agent Andrew Mills and Charlton held talks over his future over the weekend and the player has asked to leave which the club have reluctantly agreed to.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Charlton have received a written transfer request from Paul Konchesky.
"With considerable reluctance, the club have granted the request."
Konchesky's transfer request is sure to spark a scramble for his signature with Liverpool and Newcastle linked with him in the past.
