The Charlton defender has started the last five games for England in the absence of regular right back Gary Neville.
Young is resigned to losing his place in the side when Neville returns from injury and he fears Sven Goran Eriksson may plump for Jamie Carragher in the final squad because of his versatility.
"I know that Gary Neville is normally one of the first names on the England teamsheet so it's going to be difficult for me.
"He's been injured for the past couple of months so that has given me the chance.
"But I'm sure he'll be fit by the time of the next England game in March and I would expect him to go straight into the team.
"There is going to be a lot of competition for a World Cup place and I can't say I'll definitely be in the squad."
