Murphy has been in fine form for The Addicks this term but has been overlooked for selection by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson and the midfielder believes his international career has ended.
"I am a realist, I don't think it is going to happen," he told Sky Sports News. "I was playing some of my best form for a long time earlier in the season and I still didn't get in, so I don't think it is going to happen for me. That is how football goes."
Murphy claims he is still available for selection and would answer an SOS from Eriksson.
"You give it your best at the club you are at and if there are a couple of injuries you never know, we will see," he added.
Murphy feels England have a live chance of going all the way in Germany next summer.
"I can't see Trinidad and Paraguay causing too many problems," he stated. "Sweden are obviously a bit of a bogey team, but they are not a team to fear and the draw for the second round, if we came first or second, I think England would be confident against Poland or Germany.
"It is a fantastic draw and everyone is starting to believe England can do it. If it does not happen this time it might never happen as the quality of the squad is as good as ever."
