Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has backed Danny Murphy to rediscover his best form.Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has backed Danny Murphy to rediscover his best form.
The midfielder, who won plaudits for his early season performances, was a shadow of his former self in the 3-1 defeat to Everton, but his manager has insisted that he remains a key player for The Addicks.
"Danny is still part of my plans here. He is important to us," Curbishley stressed.
"I was expecting a lot more from him. He didn't play very well and he will admit that.
"Maybe there was something wrong with him. He wasn't as energetic as he usually is and he ended up in the dressing room with ice on his hamstring so maybe that was the problem."
Charlton are facing up to a scrap for survival, with eight defeats in their last 10 Premiership games seeing them slip into the bottom half of the table.
Curbishley has vowed to bring in reinforcements during the transfer window, but is reluctant to name his targets.
"Everybody wants to sign players, including us. We will be waiting to see what other clubs do first," he explained.
