Luke Young has decided to stay at Charlton after holding talks with new boss Iain Dowie.
The full back, who missed out on England's World Cup squad due to injury, stunned Charlton last month by handing in a transfer request at The Valley.
The club, in response to Young's request, revealed they had offered the former Tottenham man a new three-year deal.
Young was strongly linked with a move to West Ham, but Dowie has persuaded him to stay with Charlton.
Dowie was delighted Young decided to pledge his future to the club.
"Youngy has been a fantastic player and captain of this club and has done well enough to get in the England squad," Dowie told the club's official website.
"He was always a player I wanted to keep and I was certainly very proactive about speaking to him about the future as soon as I got the opportunity.
"I'm delighted to get the situation resolved, he's a key player for us.
"I chatted to him yesterday at length and we had a very good conversation.
"Luke's very positive about the future of the club and he can't wait to come back and get started.
"When I spoke to Luke last night he was very positive about what he has experienced here.
"He had conversations about myself with other players and we certainly got on very well.
"He wants to come back and show how fit a lad he is.
"His games record certainly shows that and he is very determined to get going again."
