Ipswich are hoping to keep Charlton midfielder Simon Walton for the rest of the season.
Ipswich Town are hoping to keep Charlton Athletic midfielder Simon Walton for the rest of the season.
Walton moved to Portman Road on loan only weeks after signing for Charlton from Leeds United in the summer.
He has scored three goals in 17 appearances for Ipswich and was expected to be included in Les Reed's Charlton plans in the New Year.
But Reed has since been replaced at the helm by Alan Pardew and Ipswich boss Jim Magilton is now keen to discuss Walton's future.
"The noise we were getting from Charlton regarding Simon was that Les Reed wanted him back, but the situation has obviously changed there with Alan Pardew now in charge," Magilton told the club's official website.
"I'd like to keep Simon. He's a good young professional who has done well for us, but it's a case of talking to Charlton and taking it from there.
"I'm hoping to speak to Alan either this week or early next week - or both - to see where we stand."
Magilton is also hoping to extend the loan stay of Jon Macken, who is due to return to Crystal Palace after the New Year's Day game with Birmingham City.
He added: "It's the same situation with Jon Macken. We will talk to Crystal Palace and see what they say because I'd like to keep him here as well."
