Darren Ambrose has urged his Charlton team-mates to make sure they claim victory over Watford on Saturday.
The Addicks moved above West Ham with a 4-0 hammering of their relegation rivals last weekend, but they remain six points adrift of safety as Wigan also won.
Charlton face bottom club Watford next and Ambrose believes it is crucial to keep the momentum going.
"The spirit's there. We're going into the game in a confident mood but not being naive and thinking we can turn up and win," he said.
"We have to try and put in a performance like we did against West Ham - and then hopefully we can win again."
The likes of Sheffield United and Manchester City, as well as Wigan, have been struggling for consistency in recent weeks and Charlton still have to face all three before the end of the season.
And Ambrose is confident Charlton can stave off relegation by pulling those teams into the battle to beat the drop.
"We play most of the teams just above us and most of them at home, which is good as our home form is very good," he said.
"If we win our next few games and the teams above us lose, they'll be dragged into it.
"We're looking to beat Watford and go three points behind Wigan, and that would give us a massive psychological boost."
