Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew felt it would have been a mistake not to look at Jody Morris in pre-season.The former Chelsea midfielder is available on a free transfer after being released by Millwall at the end of last season.
Morris featured in Wednesday's friendly against Welling and Pardew is happy to give the player a chance to impress.
"It would certainly be a disservice to Jody if I didn't take a look at him," Pardew told the club's official website.
"I know he's been training at Chelsea and wants to get his career going again, and he's come in here and done well in his first week or so.
"We haven't spoken about a contract or coming to the club, it's more a case of seeing how he gets on.
"All the things I've heard about Jody came to fruition. I thought, although he's an ex-Millwall player - which our fans didn't appreciate that much - he showed good commitment to the pass and moved the ball well and he looks in good shape."
Also training with Charlton is Dean Sinclair, although Pardew is unsure whether to take the midfielder, who has rejected a new deal at Barnet, and Morris on the club's upcoming trip to Spain.
Pardew added: "Dean has got great energy and I like that in my team. I thought he got about the pitch and broke things up really well for us.
"I've no idea if I'll take them to Spain, I haven't really thought about it. I just feel that I'll review the situation as we go."
