Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill has tabled offers to 'two or three' players as he looks to make early moves in the summer transfer market.
Knill, who left Bury to take over the reins at Glanford Park following the sacking of Ian Baraclough, is hopeful of securing his first signings at the club as he looks to add more power and pace to his squad following relegation to League One.
"Progress is going well," he told the club's
official website.
"We've made some offers to players and are just waiting for them to get back to us. We've also made offers to clubs because the players we've offered deals to are out of contract but under the age of 24.
"It's a case of speaking to the clubs as you try to close the deal. We've made two or three offers.
"The hard part though is you get to the stage where you make the offers, and now it's really a case of waiting for them to say yes.
"If they come to us, the chances are that they will improve."
Byrne
Meanwhile, skipper Cliff Byrne has gone under the surgeon's knife and will hopefully return in time for the start of pre-season training.
The defender has not played since January due to a back problem but Knill is hopeful the surgery will cure his injury once and for all.
"Cliff Byrne has just had an operation on his back," Knill told the club's
official website. "We were all disappointed when we found out he had to have an operation because the injury has been since January.
"We all felt that when he came back he had to have it done as soon as possible. I've spoken to Alex Dalton, the physio, and he told me that when they opened him up it wasn't as bad as first thought.
"We're hopeful that he'll be back, if not at the start of pre-season, then some way into pre-season.
"There's no ideal time to have an operation and I'm quite sure that Cliff will be frustrated. We're hopeful that's the end of it now though and he will be back sooner rather than later."
Fellow defender Andy Hughes has also had surgery on the hernia which kept him out of the final three matches of the Championship campaign.
