Marseille have completed the signing of long-time target Alou Diarra from Ligue 1 rivals Bordeaux.
Diarra was wanted by Marseille coach Didier Deschamps last summer, but the club were unable to reach a deal with Bordeaux at that time.
However, Bordeaux have now agreed to let the 29-year-old move on and the midfielder is reported to have signed a three-year contract at Stade Velodrome.
A statement on Marseille's
official website read: "Alou Diarra passed his medical on Monday morning and signed his contract in the process.
"With Diarra, the club has secured the services of an international defensive midfielder who is among the best in France in his position."
Born in Villepinte on the northern outskirts of Paris, he was signed by then Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier in 2002 but failed to make a first-team appearance for the English club, joining Lens in 2005 having been on loan there and also at Le Havre and Bastia.
Diarra moved on to Lyon in 2006 before joining Bordeaux a year later, while he was suspended for six matches last season after pushing a referee during a Ligue 1 match in October.
