Charlton manager Chris Powell praised Ben Hamer after he turned an unlikely provider for a goal in their 4-0 win over Carlisle.
The Addicks were already in front through Yann Kermorgant's 14th-minute headed opener when Hamer launched a long goal-kick forward seven minutes later. James Tavernier failed to deal with the danger and Bradley Wright-Phillips capitalised by doubling Charlton's lead. But it was Hamer's assist which delighted Powell afterwards. The Valley chief explained: "The modern day goalkeeper and the way they kick it - I suppose it is the continental style - Ben is one of the best I've ever seen. "He has been in the game a long time but he is very, very good at it and is very accurate. We now know we can counterattack, it's part of any good team." Victory saw leaders Charlton return to winning ways after last weekend's shock defeat at Stevenage and the manager was more than happy with the response from his charges. Powell added: "What pleased me was how emphatic we were and how clinical we were in the first half and the clean sheet. I really wanted that clean sheet and in the end we deserved it really because we've recently had two deflected goals and two penalties."
