McAnuff's current deal at the Madejski Stadium expires at the end of the season and as yet there have been no talks over an extension.
The news has alerted a host of sides to McAnuff's possible availability during the January transfer window if Reading decide to cash-in on him rather than see him leave for free in the summer.
Charlton, Millwall, Blackburn and Wigan are all thought to be keeping tabs on McAnuff and are weighing up moves for the former Cardiff man.
McAnuff has been at Reading since joining them in 2009 from Watford and has made over 165 appearances for the Royals, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in the 2011/12 season.
McAnuff has admitted he is yet to hear from Reading about his future and that he is keeping his options open.
"At this stage of the season I have to look at what's best for me moving forward," the 32-year-old told the Reading Evening Post.
"If it was up to me I would remain here. I'm settled here, I'm enjoying my time at the club.
"But that's not all it comes down to, there has to be a willingness on the other side to make that happen."
He added: "I had a chat last season with the manager and I made it clear I was happy at the club.
"It's a situation that is now out of my hands.
"It's not really up to me to initiate, I've made my feelings clear."
