The Hammers' Premiership rivals Aston Villa were reputedly offered the opportunity to sign the Colombian stopper as part of the deal to take River Plate team-mate Juan Pablo Angel to England.

That £9.5 million deal has fallen through over the method of payment for the prolific Colombian striker and Gustavo Mascardi, who acts as both players' agent, was sending his representative Fernando Hidalgo over to help complete the ill-fated Angel before it was scuppered by FA regulations.
Hidalgo is still expected to arrive in England and it is thought he will now try and push through a deal for Yepes to move to Upton Park.
West Ham have been looking to add to their defensive options at the club having sold star defender Rio Ferdinand to Leeds United for a British record fee of £18 million.
Hammers boss Harry Redknapp has already signed Rigobert Song and Hannu Tihinen to strengthen his defence and he still has funds available to make further signings, and he may decide to snap up highly rated Yepes to add to his options.
