The versatile Italian only recently extended his contract with the club until 2004, but may be tempted by a switch to London if Roeder follows up his initial interest with a firm bid.
The Hammers' recent run of good form came to an abrupt end at Elland Road on Tuesday evening, as Leeds United went top of the table with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Roeder has admitted he may need to sell before bringing in new blood, with Paolo Di Canio continually linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Upton Park boss is believed to have compiled a short-list of possible targets.
Colonnello has previously played for Perugia, Pescara and Castel di Sangro, and can play in midfield or defence.
The 28-year-old has been used sparingly this term, and only featured in 91 minutes of action, in total, in Serie A.
Lecce could also off-load Bruno Cirillo, with Brescia keen on landing the defender.
The 24-year-old was formerly with Internazionale.
