Glenn Roeder has looked to Serie A several times as he seeks to build his West Ham squad and it appears that Tedesco is the player that has most caught his eye.
At 29, the influential midfielder has a wealth of top flight experience with clubs such as Fiorentina and Salernitana, and has been in fine form for Perugia.
Tedesco recently picked up a minor injury and was sorely missed in his side's 2-0 defeat at the hands of high-flying Internazionale.
With Di Canio likely to complete a move to Manchester United in the coming days, Roeder has had to look to bring players in as cover.
The fact that the former Watford boss is looking to buy a midfielder suggests that he is happy to let a strike partnership between Freddie Kanoute and Jermain Defoe continue to flourish.
The fee that Perugia are believed to be demanding for Tedesco amounts to around é¼6 million (£3.6 million).
Another player linked with a move to The Irons is Parma's Johan Micoud.
Micoud has long been linked with a move away from the club, after largely failing to have the expected impact following a move from Bordeaux.
However, the club have strongly denied that they are looking to offload the French international, and it appears that any interest from English clubs will be dismissed.
