The Hammers were looking for a promising shot-stopper to come to East London, and settled on Forde after being impressed with his performances for the Welsh side.
However, Glenn Roeder initially tried to sign Alverca starlet Yannick, who was recently handed an award as the best Under-21 player in the Portuguese league, following a fine performance against Boavista.
"It was about a month ago when the manager of West Ham presented the proposal," agent Arthur Santos revealed.
"However, Yannick rejected it, as he and his wife prefer to be in Portugal."
The Frenchman seems more likely to head for his homeland, if he does leave Alverca, with a number of clubs keen on his services.
Indeed, Rennes and Paris Saint Germain have already watched him in action, and Portuguese sources claim Deportivo La Coruna, Tenerife, Alaves and Celta Vigo have shown an interest in taking him to Spain.
