The Hammers have dispensed of the services of a number of their stars, headed by controversial Italian Paolo Di Canio, while offering fresh terms to four players.
Lee Bowyer, who arrived on a short-term deal from Leeds United, joins Gary Breen, Edouard Cisse, Clive Delaney, Izzie Iriekpen, Scott Minto, John Moncur, Raimond van der Gouw, Nigel Winterburn and Di Canio in heading for the exit door.
However, the East Londoners want to keep Les Ferdinand, Stephen Bywater, David Noble and Daryl McMahon, as the quartet have been offered new contracts.
Ferdinand recently pledged to play on in Division One next season, after it had been suggested he may retire, and it is likely he will spearhead the bid to bounce straight back up.
