After a solid start from the visitors, goals just before the break from Etherington and Bobby Zamora broke The Dons' resistance giving The Hammers a deserved lead.
Things did not get better for Stuart Murdoch's men after the break with Etherington netting his second and Nigel Reo-Cooker getting in on the act.
Etherington completed his hat-trick after 70 minutes after collecting David Connolly's pass to knock the ball over the keeper and seal a forgettable night for their London visitors.
The victory moves West Ham into third ahead of Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United, while Wimbledon remain rooted at the bottom of the table.
