Darren Carter's agent claims Sunderland have not made fresh contact regarding the Birmingham City midfielder.
The England Under-21 international was a major hit during a loan spell on Wearside last season and, with Mick McCarthy desperate to bolster his squad following promotion, it is anticipated that Carter will be on the Black Cats manager's list of targets.
However, other clubs have enquired about taking Carter on a season-long loan deal.
"There has been no contact from Sunderland as yet," commented David Manasseh. "But a couple of Premiership clubs have spoken to Birmingham about taking Darren on a season-long loan."
Meanwhile, reports emanating from Suffolk are indicating that Ipswich Town keeper Kelvin Davis is likely to reject his proposed move to The Stadium of Light.
The Portman Road shot-stopper held talks with Sunderland last week but it has been reported that he would prefer to remain in the south, with speculation suggesting that West Ham could mount a bid for the 28-year-old's services.
