West Ham striker Marlon Harewood hopes to build on his show against Aston Villa.West Ham striker Marlon Harewood believes he has proved he can do it in The Premiership.
Harewood netted his first goals of the season with a superb hat-trick in Monday's 4-0 win over Aston Villa.
The former Nottingham Forest hit-man had come in for some criticism after missing several clear chances against Bolton last month.
Harewood bounced back in style with his treble against Villa and he has thanked Alan Pardew for keeping faith with him.
"People have been getting on my back because as a striker they want me to get goals," said Harewood.
"My record speaks for itself - I got 22 goals when we won promotion from the Championship last season but that's the way it is nowadays.
"The fans are looking for the top people to do the top things so I know I have to do the business.
"If you miss one chance at least you are getting into the right positions, so you hope another comes along, and even if you miss that, you just have to keep going.
"It's good the manager kept faith with me. A lot of the time when teams get promoted the boss goes out and spends big money, but Alan Pardew has faith in us all because he feels we got the club where they are now.
"I have set myself a target of 15 goals this season. That's always my aim, any more is a bonus, and now I'm off and running.
"To get my first goal was a great feeling. I wanted to keep on plugging away because there has been criticism from sources and getting a hat-trick was great."
