Rangers manager Walter Smith has poured cold water on suggestions that West Ham utility player Christian Dailly is heading to Ibrox.
Reports suggested that Dailly, 34, could move to provide cover after veteran defender Ugo Ehiogu signed for Sheffield United.
While Smith admits the Dailly could come into his thoughts if they lose more players, he said that was not the situation at present.
He said: "I think it is a bit premature in the sense that, with Ugo Ehiogu leaving, people are putting two and two together and thinking that we need cover.
"But we have Andy Webster and Steven Smith returning. They have both been out for a long spell and we are adequately covered there.
"If we were to lose another player or two we would maybe need to look at bringing in someone else to keep our squad up to size for the number of games we have coming up in the next few weeks.
"If we made that decision, he (Dailly) would come into consideration but that is as far as we can go at the present moment."
Smith admitted midfielder Kevin Thomson, who has been struggling with a groin problem, could be forced to undergo surgery to clear up the problem.
Smith said: "He's had this problem for two or three weeks now.
"The specialist wants him to do a little bit more training, let it settle down and re-start training again to see if there is a recurrence.
"There is a possibility that he will be fit to play on Sunday.
"But our worry is that it will recur and if it does there is that possibility that he will need an operation so we will just have to wait and see."
