Sunderland boss Roy Keane says an unnamed player has 'agreed in principle' to move to the Stadium of Light.
Keane has been active in the transfer market this week, with Djibril Cisse and David Healy both signing for the Black Cats.
A further two new arrivals have been lined up, with West Ham United centre-half Anton Ferdinand mulling over an offer.
Ferdinand is understood to have accepted a switch to the North East with Keane waiting to finalise the transfer.
"I spoke to a player last night and he has agreed to come in principle," said Keane.
"There are just one or two things to be ironed out, and there's one other position I'd like to strengthen before I'm finished."
Meanwhile, Keane expressed his delight at improving his attacking options by adding Cisse and Healy to his squad.
He added: "With Kenwyne Jones being injured, we did lack some physical presence up front.
"We're delighted with the two signings, we needed more strength up there and they will give us it.
"The [Cisse] loan deal is good for both parties. For us, to look at him with an option to buy him; and for him, to come and show what he is all about."
