Hammers defender closing in on move to the Stadium of Light

Roy Keane has confirmed West Ham United defender Anton Ferdinand is having a medical at Sunderland. The Hammers have accepted a bid from their Premier League rivals for Ferdinand, with the fee reported to be in the £8million region. West Ham boss Alan Curbishley confirmed at the weekend that the offer had been approved by the board due to Ferdinand's reluctance to negotiate a new contract at Upton Park. Ferdinand has now travelled to the North East in order to finalise a move to the Stadium of Light in the final week of the transfer window. The former England Under 21 international has been mulling over an offer for several days and is now due to undergo a medical.

Delighted

The centre-half has been struggling with a hamstring injury of late and has not featured in the Hammers' opening two games of the season. Keane said: "Anton is up this morning for a medical, we're looking to tie it up today. "I met him last week and it went well, he will be a good addition to our squad and it will keep people on their toes. "I will be delighted if I can get him and another one and then we can concentrate on the season."
