The Norwegians are busy trying to bolster their squad in a bid to remain in the Tippeligaen, and have targeted Helguson.
The 26-year-old has started from the bench in both of Watford's Championship openers so far this season, and he is not happy about not being in the starting XI.
Fredrikstad boss Knut Thorbjorn Eggen says that Helguson is one of the names on his wanted list.
"We are working on it and I will not write anything off," said Eggen.
"We have registered the names."
The Icelandic international signed for Watford from Lillestrom, and is now being lined up for a return to Norway.
Helguson's Iceland international team-mate Tryggvi Gudmundsson from Orgryte is another target for Fredrikstad.
