Webber on the mark again

Watford secured their third consecutive away victory as they beat Millwall 2-0.

Watford secured their third consecutive away victory as they beat Millwall 2-0 at The Den.

The prolific Danny Webber opened the scoring on 65 minutes and, after The Lions had Danny Dichio sent off, Heidar Helguson sealed the points.

The match lacked any true quality and both keepers were rarely tested throughout the 90 minutes of the Championship encounter.

The visitors' best chance of the first half fell to Brynjar Gunnarsson, whose header from Paul Mayo's cross crashed off the underside of the bar and bounced out off the line.

On 20 minutes, Millwall had a goal disallowed after Barry Cogan had created a threatening position when his shot deflected off Sean Dyche.

Peter Sweeney whipped in the resulting corner but Dichio's header was chalked off after he was adjudged to have fouled Watford keeper Richard Lee.

The breakthrough came 20 minutes after the interval, with Lions keeper Graham Stack slightly unfortunate. He did well to parry Helguson's header but Webber was on hand to tap in his ninth goal of the campaign.

Millwall's hopes of a comeback faded on 74 minutes when Dichio was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Just two minutes later and the game was all over as Helguson rifled in a low shot beyond Stack to lift Watford to sixth in the table.
