Watford have signed Gillingham striker Darius Henderson for £450,000.On the eve of the Championship season Watford have made a major addition to their striking options in the shape of Darius Henderson.
The 23-year-old has moved to Vicarage Road from relegated Gillingham for £450,000, and has penned a four-year deal with Adrian Boothroyd's side.
Henderson had handed in a transfer request after The Gills were demoted to League One, although the club decided against accepting this back in July.
However, The Hornets have now persuaded them to let go of their star striker, and Henderson set his sights high upon arrival at the Hertfordshire side.
"I'm delighted to be here," Henderson told the club's official website.
"I knew a few weeks ago that Watford were interested and it never left my mind.
"It was the move I wanted and when the opportunity arose to come here I didn't hesitate.
"I'm an ambitious player and I'm sure we'll do well this season.
"It wasn't so long ago that Watford were among the elite and if we work hard there's no reason why we couldn't go back there."
Hornets boss Boothroyd expressed his delight at securing the signing of Henderson, describing him as fitting the bill regarding the club's requirements.
"Darius fits the new culture here," said Boothroyd.
"He's young, hungry and part of the new breed of footballer that I want to bring to the is club.
"He's been one of my top targets during the summer and when you see him in action you'll see why.
"He is big, powerful, aggressive, mobile and gets goals.
"I'm really pleased he's joined us and he now has a chance to grow into a top striker at Watford."
