Cardiff City boss Dave Jones may re-enter the transfer market after failing to extend the loan of James Chambers.
The full back has returned to Watford after making seven appearances during his month-long spell at Ninian Park.
Jones had wanted to keep the 25-year-old for a further month, but had his request turned down by the Premiership club.
With Chambers gone, and Kerrea Gilbert injured, Jones concedes he will have to sign another defender on loan, or put his faith in 17-year-old Chris Gunter.
"It's difficult because we've got one or two walking wounded at the moment," said Jones.
"It's a situation we knew we would be in at the start of the season. We are running with a limited number of people, but we've got to get on with it.
"I lose James Chambers, so I've got to try and find someone else or I throw in Chris Gunter.
"I'll have no problems playing him if that's what I have to do, if it means me not having to move other players around."
