Southampton have rejected an offer from Hull City for midfielder David Prutton.
Southampton have confirmed that they rejected an offer from Hull City for midfielder David Prutton.
Hull are eager to bolster their midfield ranks in the January transfer window and see Prutton as the ideal candidate to add a combative presence to their side.
Tigers manager Phil Brown is eager to sign Prutton, now fully fit after a frustrating past 12 months of injury problems, before the close of the current window despite the fact he is out of contract in the summer.
Southampton have yet to intimate whether they would be interested in extending Prutton's stay on the South Coast but with an injury crisis of their own to contend with, their manager George Burley is refusing to sanction his departure.
"We did have an offer from Hull which we turned down," confirmed Burley.
Should Hull make a fresh approach for the player, then reports suggest they could face competition from both his former club Nottingham Forest and Premiership strugglers Watford.
