Watford boss Sean Dyche was left ruing his side's missed chances on Tuesday night, so much so that he is openly in the market for a new striker.
The Hornets were dumped out of the Carling Cup after losing a penalty shoot-out to League Two side Bristol Rovers following a 1-1 draw after extra-time at the Memorial Stadium.
The Championship side had 27 shots at goal during the contest, 14 of which were on target, compared to Rovers' eight, but only Marvin Sordell could find the net when opening the scoring on two minutes.
"I'm not naive. We're painfully aware of what's needed," Dyche told the club's
official website.
"So our search for fresh faces intensifies if that's possible. There are a lot of people working ever so hard to do all they can to bring new additions into the squad - to add to the mix of what we have.
"Whether that can happen before Sunday's game against Birmingham City remains to be seen.

"We're active in both the permanent and loan markets. Phone calls galore, regular contact all over the place - we're under no illusions about the importance of that.
"It's absolutely crystal clear to anyone watching what we need right now," he added after the shoot-out, which saw John Eustace and Carl Dickinson denied.
"I think the efforts on or off-target were well above 20 again tonight, and therein lies the truth of it.
"It's all very well me standing here talking about how well we might have played in our build-up work, but you've simply got to put the ball in the net to confirm your domination in a game like tonight.
"You're not going to win many games scoring just one goal. That's the fact of it, right there."
