Lee Carsley happy to win final game in charge of Brentford

Lee Carsley says Saturday's 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest was his last game in charge of Brentford.

Carsley took over at Griffin Park when Marinus Dijkhuizen was dismissed at the end of September, with his deal due to last until the end of the season.

But the Bees have recently been linked with a move for Pep Clotet, currently assistant to Swansea manager Garry Monk, and Carsley's comments after Saturday's game were a large hint that a permanent appointment is close.

Carsley, 41, is expected to return to his previous role as Brentford's Development Squad manager.

He said: "This was my last game so it was nice to get a result. My remit was always to get us back on track and now, with the way we've been playing and a lot of the injured boys coming back to fitness, I can say I've done that.

"I will be staying on to help with the transition before returning to my old role, we have players coming back from injury and are in a strong position."

As for the victory, Carsley was progressively happier with his side's performance as the game wore on, although he was disappointed with the decision that saw Harlee Dean sent off.

Carsley said he would consider appealing against the red card, which came when Dean picked up the ball after a free- kick against him, swung round with it and caught the onrushing Jonathan Williams.

Brentford conceded an equaliser moments after Hart's dismissal, but they grabbed all three points deep into added time when Philipp Hofmann's deflected strike found the back of the net.

"I know it can hurt if you get caught with an elbow but he popped up straight away after the card came out, which is a little disappointing but I guess that happens," Carsley added.

"The international break can be good but in this case it didn't help us. It took us about an hour to get going but I thought we got better and better as the game wore on. The substitutes gave us more energy and both scored, so that was nice to see.

"Harlee will be a big loss for us. He was one of the boys not doing themselves justice at the start of the season, but he is now playing like a leader. Having said that, Jack O'Connell came in and looked very solid for us."
