QPR are closing in on Peterborough forward Conor Washington

QPR have reached agreement with Peterborough on a deal for striker Conor Washington, according to Sky sources.

The London side sold top scorer Charlie Austin to Southampton on Saturday and have moved quickly to replace the prolific forward.

Washington has agreed personal terms and is set to join for a fee believed to between £2.5m and £3m subject to a medical.

The 23-year-old has impressed this season for a free-scoring Posh side who lie sixth in League One and are the second-highest scorers in the division.

Washington joined Peterborough from Newport in 2014, and has already bagged 15 goals this season.

QPR were relegated from the Premier League last term and have been inconsistent on their return to the Championship, finally registering their first win under boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at the ninth attempt when they won 3-0 at Rotherham on Saturday.

The R's are currently 15th in the standings and short of options up front following the departure of Austin, although Sebastian Polter has managed three goals in his last four appearances.
