Blackburn Rovers have signed Sunderland midfielder Jordi Gomez on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has moved to Ewood Park after falling out of favour at the Stadium of Light.

He has made only six appearances for the Black Cats this season, the last of them in the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City on Boxing Day.

Gomez started his career at Barcelona but did not make a first-team appearance for the club before a two-year spell with Espanyol.

He spent the 2008/9 campaign with Swansea City on loan before following Swans boss Roberto Martinez to Wigan Athletic for a fee of £1.7m.

After five seasons at the DW Stadium, Gomez moved to Sunderland in May 2014 on a free transfer and has so far made 39 appearances for the club and scored six goals.

Blackburn have also announced the departure of midfielder Sacha Petshi to Ligue 2 outfit Creteil on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old Frenchman joined Rovers on a free transfer from Bastia in the summer, but failed to make a first-team appearance.
