Brentford prepare for Jake Bidwell exit but QPR approach turned down

Brentford are preparing to let Jake Bidwell leave the club this summer, according to Sky sources, but the Bees have rejected an initial approach from west London rivals Queens Park Rangers.

The 23-year-old club captain is understood to want to leave Griffin Park and Brentford are assessing their left-back options in the transfer market ahead of his departure.

The club's long-term plan is to bring through youngster Tom Field in that position, but they also want a new experienced left-sided defender to compete and aid his development.

Field is set for talks over a new contract this summer after impressing on his debut in the final home game of the season.

QPR, meanwhile, are understood to remain very interested in Bidwell and are preparing to return with a second approach as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink improves his squad for next season.

Bidwell signed for Brentford after two initial loan spells between 2011 and 2013 and has made over 200 appearances for the club.

He had held initial talks over a new contract after interest was expressed in him in January and further talks took place after the end of the season, but he is understood to have told the club of his intention to move on.
