Barnsley have signed striker Elliot Lee following his recent release by West Ham.

Lee, 21, told he would not be offered a new deal by the Hammers earlier this month, has put pen to paper on an undisclosed deal at the newly-promoted Sky Bet Championship club.

"Barnsley Football Club is delighted to confirm that West Ham United striker Elliot Lee has (on Friday) agreed personal terms at Oakwell and will join the Reds ahead of the 2016/17 season," the club said on their official website.

Durham-born Lee progressed through West Ham's academy and made seven senior appearances for the club, including two starts in the Europa League last year. He also had loan spells at Colchester, Southend, Luton and Blackpool.

Lee returned to Colchester on a temporary basis in January this year, scoring two goals in 15 appearances. The U's were relegated after finishing second bottom of Sky Bet League One.
