Romaine Sawyers has joined Brentford on a four-year deal after leaving Walsall.

The St Kitts and Nevis international put pen to paper on a contract with The Bees on Friday, after rejecting a new contract offered by The Saddlers.

The attacking midfielder scored seven goals and contributed 13 assists as he helped Walsall to a third-place finish in League One last season.

Sawyers, who began his career at West Brom, was named in last season's PFA Sky Bet League One Team of the Year and finished second in the Football League Awards Sky Bet League One Player of the Year poll.

"Romaine is a player I know very well," said Brentford head coach Dean Smith, who managed Sawyers during his time as Walsall boss.

"For a player to get in the PFA Team of the Year and the top three as voted for by managers and supporters it shows the ability he has. Hopefully he will show that here."

Phil Giles, Brentford's co-director of football, added: "Romaine is a player that we've been watching for some time. When Dean joined the club last year he was able to give a very good reference and so Romaine became an obvious target for us during the close season.

"Understandably there was lots of interest in Romaine and so I'm delighted that he has chosen to come to Brentford and look forward to working with him over the coming seasons."
