Bristol City midfielder Korey Smith has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

The 25-year-old, who joined the club two years ago, will remain at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2019.

The former Norwich player regularly wore the captain's armband last season and helped the club to the League One title and in 2014/15.

"I think this is as big as the new signings we've already made," said City's head coach Lee Johnson.

"Korey is everything we are about; he wants the ball, he's good on the ball and he can win it back for you as well.

"Personally I feel I've invested in Korey's career. I had him at Oldham, taking him there on a free transfer from Norwich City before selling him to Bristol City. Luckily I've inherited him again.

"He's a quality player and I'm delighted he's committed his long-term future to the club."
