Wolves boss Walter Zenga told his side not to let their standards slip following a 3-1 Sky Bet Championship win against Brentford at Molineux.

Joao Teixeira struck twice at the start of the second half before Sullay Kaikai grabbed a 67th-minute lifeline for Brentford but their comeback hopes were extinguished by a stoppage-time strike from Ivan Cavaleiro.

Zenga has ambitious plans to be in the promotion race and he said: "I enjoyed it because we approached the game very well and the attitude of the team was fantastic.

"We have to continue in this way and don't forget where we have come from and where we want to arrive.

"It is a long season and we don't want to forget that if everyone pulls together we can arrive where we want to be.

"The fans love when the team plays football and the fans love when the team runs and puts the attitude in on the pitch and works hard. We have to be 100 per cent.

"I don't know where we can arrive. But I want to fight for something. That is very important.

"I don't want to stay in the middle of the ranking (the league). You have to believe in your chance.

"I don't want to read the ranking until December and then we will talk. At the moment I don't know where we are now. Honest."

Wolves broke the deadlock two minutes into the second half when Teixeira converted a cross from Helder Costa before he doubled their advantage 10 minutes later with a curling free-kick after Costa had been fouled by Ryan Woods.

Kaikai reduced the arrears when he lashed a pass from Nico Yennaris past Carl Ikeme before Cavaleiro converted a pass from Yon Dadi Bodvarsson.

The defeat ended Brentford's four-match unbeaten run and manager Dean Smith was unhappy that some key decisions went against his side.

He said: "We gave them two cheap goals. Well, the first one was cheap. Josh (McEachran) should probably have played it wide, ran into trouble and then we didn't have the balance right behind and they broke and scored.

"We've got to be better to prevent that but the second goal should have been our free-kick anyway, it certainly wasn't a free-kick for them, and they scored from that.

"Games change on decisions and that was a poor decision from the official. At 2-1 we've had a chance with John Egan with a header, a chance with Lasse Vibe and we should have had a penalty for handball and we didn't get it.

"After 55 minutes, if the game finishes then I would say 'yes, Wolves deserve the win' but after that I thought the commitment from our players was excellent and it was a game that could have gone either way. But you can't give teams a two-goal lead.

"The reaction to going two goals down was good and I thought Wolves started to panic towards the end. We put them under an awful lot of pressure and had some good chances.

"For me it turns on two things - goals change games and it's turned on the decision to give them the free-kick that they scored from and then the decision to not give us a penalty at 2-1 for handball."
