Garry Monk says Leeds United's run in will only get tougher now they know what they are fighting for, starting with Brighton live on Sky Sports on Friday.
Leeds have won five of their last six league matches to rise to fourth in the table, but face second-placed Brighton, who sit seven points ahead of them, at the Amex Stadium this weekend.
Monk has overseen a a revival of fortunes at the Yorkshire club after a slow start to the season, but believes their play-off position could make things more difficult as clubs begin to realise what they can achieve this season.
"Each game for every club becomes harder and more important now, because teams tend to find out now what they are fighting for this season," Monk told the Leeds website.
"It will be another massive test for us and our young group, but one we want to see the team come through with a good performance."
Leeds have not won at Brighton since the Seagulls' switch to their new stadium in 2011 and Monk is aware their opposition will be a tough test.
"Brighton are where they are in the league for a reason, they have been together as a team for a long time now," said Monk.
"They have a lot of experience at this level and the Amex is an extremely difficult place to go, they have a lot of quality."
Brighton are unbeaten in the league since September 10 and sit just one point behind Newcastle at the top of the Championship, and manager Chris Hughton believes home advantage on Friday can help sustain their form.
"In any division, your home form is always going to be vital. It's always tougher away from home and that's just how the game is," Hughton said in his pre-match press conference.
"It's vital that you create an atmosphere at home which gives you an edge, which includes the mentality of the players and also the big part the supporters play.
"If I felt they were good last season, then they've certainly upped their levels this season, they've been excellent, and that helps.
"For any team that wants to do well in any division, you have to maintain a good home record."
Leeds captain Liam Bridcutt has returned to training following a foot injury but Monk confirmed he will not be fit to face Brighton.
Liam Cooper is in line to return to the matchday squad after shaking off the ankle injury that kept him out of Saturday's home win over Aston Villa, while Eunan O'Kane was back in training on Thursday and could also return,
but remains doubtful due to a groin strain sustained in the EFL Cup defeat at Liverpool.
Brighton defender Gaetan Bong is suspended following his red card in the goalless draw at Cardiff last weekend, so Sebastien Pocognoli is set for a recall.
Midfielder Beram Kayal is back in training after two months out with an ankle injury but will not be involved.
