West Ham defender Reece Oxford has joined Reading on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old becomes manager Jaap Stam's fourth signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals of Tiago Ilori, Adrian Popa and Jordon Mutch at the Madejski Stadium.

Sky sources understand that fellow Sky Bet Championship clubs Nottingham Forest and Brentford were also interested in Oxford, as well as Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

"Reece was a player who was wanted on loan by a number of clubs and we are absolutely delighted to have secured his services for the remainder of the season," Reading chief executive Nigel Howe told the club's official website.

"He is young, but hungry for success and I am sure he will prove an excellent addition to our squad and learn a lot during his spell under Jaap Stam at Reading."

Oxford has not played in the Premier League for West Ham this season but made seven appearances in the top flight last season, including an impressive debut at Arsenal.
