Jordan Rhodes completed his move from Middlesbrough to Sheffield Wednesday before Tuesday's deadline, the EFL has confirmed.
A deal worth around £10m was agreed between the clubs on Deadline Day, according to Sky sources, but there was no official confirmation from either club before the 11pm cut-off.
A statement from the EFL on Wednesday said the transfer did go through, and Rhodes now returns to the Championship after helping Boro win promotion last season.
"The EFL is now satisfied that the relevant documents in relation to the transfer of Jordan Rhodes from Middlesbrough to Sheffield Wednesday were sent prior to the expiry of last night's deadline," the statement said.
Boro signed Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede during the January window as Rhodes and David Nugent were allowed to leave the Riverside.
Rhodes made just six appearances in this season's Premier League.
